The global soda ash demand was estimated to be over 57 million tons in 2017. Soda ash is commercially produced naturally as well as synthetically. Natural soda ash reserves are found in USA and soda ash is produced by natural extraction by US based companies like CINER Group, Solvay Chemicals and TATA Chemicals. Regions other than North America produce soda ash using Solvay process where brine (concentrated salt solution) is reacted with limestone to produce soda ash. USA is a major exporter of soda ash and will continue to be a net exporter in forecast period. USA is major exporter of soda ash due to its natural soda ash reserves. US produced 12 million metric tons soda ash in 2016 and domestic demand was around 5.3 million metric tons. Around 6.7 million metric tons soda ash was available for export. Around 50% of Soda ash is used in manufacturing Flat Glass and container glass. Other major applications are soaps and detergents, chemicals, flue gas desulfurization and water treatment. Global soda ash market is expected to grow at a CAGR of 2.5% during 2018-2025.
