Polyamide 6 Market Overview
The global polyamide 6 demand stood at 7000 kilo tons in 2025 with the majority of consumption coming from the textile, automotive and electrical & electronics industries. PA 6 is used for its excellent mechanical strength, abrasion resistance, chemical stability, and good thermal performance. In the forecast period, the PA 6 market is poised to grow at a CAGR of 2.2% between 2026 and 2034. Polyamide 6 (PA 6) is a widely used engineering thermoplastic, known for its excellent mechanical strength, toughness, and chemical resistance. It is manufactured by the polymerization of caprolactam, resulting in a material with a balanced combination of strength, flexibility, and durability. PA 6 has good tensile strength, good abrasion resistance, and excellent impact resistance; therefore, it is useful in materials for which both long lifespan and low weight are required. Its excellent resistance to oils, greases, fuels, and several chemicals increases performance in harsh environments. Nylon 6 is used for electrical/electronic components with strong electrical insulation characteristics and retains its good behavior over a wide temperature range.

North America is the third largest manufacturer with a total production capacity of 700 kilo tons with USA accounting for majority of the market. BASF is the largest manufacturer in the US operating 4 units and a capacity of 370 kilo tons, followed by AdvanSix with a production capacity of 200 kilo tons. Other manufacturers include Nylon Corp of America (NYCOA), Custom Resins (subsidary of Polymeric Resources Corp.), LANXESS, EMS-Grivory and Celanese. Nylene is the sole manufacturer in Canada operating a 30 kilo tons plant in Arnprior, Ontario.
Polyamide 6 Pricing Analysis
The pricing of Polyamide 6 is influenced by fluctuations in raw material costs, production capacity, and demand from key end-use industries such as automotive, electrical & electronics, textiles, and packaging. The main feedstock used in the production of PA 6 is caprolactam, and changes in caprolactam prices directly impact on the overall cost structure of PA 6. In China, PA6 prices are generally lower due to large production capacity, integrated supply chains, and competitive manufacturing costs. The average price for Asia (FOB China) in 2024 was 2,560 USD/ton, which has decreased by 14.54% to 2,190 USD/ton in 2025.
China is the largest producer and exporter of PA 6, which often puts downward pressure on regional prices. Europe and North America, on the other hand, generally carry higher prices due to greater energy costs, more stringent environmental laws, and relatively smaller production facilities.

Polyamide 6 (PA6) Demand, by Application
PA 6 applications are segmented into automotive, electrical & electronics, packaging/film, industrial, textiles, consumer goods & appliances, and others. Textile remains the largest application for polyamide 6 and it is estimated to continue its dominance in the forecast period. Automtive is another leading consumer of PA 6 and it is poised to register CAGR of ~2 during the forecast period. In Automotive replacing metal components with nylon reduces vehicle weight and lighter vehicles use less fuel and, in the case of EVs, get more range per charge. Metal replacement is one of the key demand driver for polyamide 6 in automotive. Air intake manifold, fuel lines, radiator tanks, rocker cover and electrical wires account for majority of the polyamide 6 demand in automotive under the bonnet applications and the rest of the polyamide is used in interior & exterior parts. Polyamide 6 is also used in the electrical & electronics industry for industrial cable protection systems, as well as in fittings and connectors. Polyamide 6 cable protection systems are generally superior in performance to the more common PVC-jacketed metallic wires. Polyamide 6 used in cable protection is highly engineered and specially modified for high impact resistance and flexibility.

Polyamide 6 (PA6) Demand, by Region
Asia Pacific is the largest market for Polyamide 6 with total demand of more than 5,000 kilo tons in 2025. China is the largest polyamide 6 consumer accounting for more than 90% of the regional market. China is the largest automotive market globally and is poised to increase the production of electric and hybrid vehicles. In the forecast period, the polyamide 6 demand in China is anticipated to grow at a CAGR of 2.1% between 2026 and 2034. The polyamide 6 demand in India stood at 140 kilo tons in 2025. In India, the Government has launched the PM E-DRIVE scheme with a budget of USD 1.30 billion. The initiative aims to accelerate the adoption of electric vehicles (EVs), establish charging infrastructure, and develop an EV manufacturing ecosystem in India. Rising middle-class income and young population will result in strong demand growth for automotives which will positively impact the polyamide 6 market. North America polyamide 6 demand was recorded around 650 kilo tons. The North American automotive industry is a major driver of the region’s economies, and the US automotive industry contributes 5% of GDP.
Market Driver: Increasing Demand from the Automotive Industry
One of the major factors supporting the PA 6 market is the increasing demand from the automotive industry. Automotive manufacturers are constantly working to improve vehicle performance, fuel efficiency, and safety while also meeting strict environmental and emission regulations. There has been a noticeable shift toward lightweight engineering plastics that can replace traditional materials such as steel and aluminum in several automotive components. Polyamide 6 is widely used in automotive applications including engine covers, air intake manifolds, radiator end tanks, fuel system components, and electrical connectors. PA 6 provides excellent durability, chemical resistance, and thermal stability, allowing components to maintain reliable performance in demanding operating conditions. Its high strength-to-weight ratio enables manufacturers to reduce vehicle weight without compromising safety or structural integrity. The expansion of the global automotive industry, particularly in emerging markets such as China, India, and Southeast Asia, is further driving demand for PA 6. Increasing vehicle production, rising consumer demand for passenger cars, and growing investments in electric vehicle manufacturing are all contributing to higher consumption of engineering plastics. PA 6 is therefore commonly used in EV components such as battery housings, electrical connectors, and thermal management systems. As the automotive sector continues to focus on efficiency, durability, and sustainability, the demand for Polyamide 6 is expected to grow in the forecast period.
