Business Opportunities in India ABS Market

 Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene is the most widely used engineering plastic finding its applications in automotive, electrical &electronics, industrial and consumer products sector. The Indian market has emerged stronger than expected registering a growth of 9.7% in 2016-17 and now accounts for around 1.5% of the global demand. The capacity utilization has averaged around 77% during 2011-2016 decreasing from 98% in 2011 to 65% in 2016.

India has been a net importer of ABS. The imports from 2011 on wards have averaged around 70 kilo tons. Bhansali Engineering Polymers Ltd. and INEOSStyrolution India Ltd. together account for 62% of India’s ABS demand, rest is met by imports mostly from South Korea.

Prismane Consulting estimates a high growth of over 9% for ABS in India from 2017 to 2025 on account of increasing demand from middle income group for refrigerators, washing machines, two wheelers, and mobile phones.
