Germany is the leading consumer of POM in Western Europe. The country accounted for around 44% of the POM demand in the region on the back ofits vast automotive and electrical & electronics industry. POM goes in for the automotive breaking systems and gears for transmission lines for automotive. There are more than 40 OEM companies in Germany.

POM demand in Germany was estimated to be around 94 kilo tons in 2018. The demand grew at an aggregate growth rate of nearly 1.1% from 81 kilotons in 2005 to the current levels in 2018. POM demand in the country is likely to grow at an average of 0.8-1.0% till 2025.

Historically the average utilization rates from 2005 to 2018 have been slightly over 82% which witnessed decline from 2008 -2011 following on set of global economic recession and as new capacities were added during this period. The utilization rates started to recover from 2012 onwards.

Automotive applications of POM in Germany directly accounts for 41% of POM demand, mainly for automotive interiors and as a metal replacement to increase efficiency by providing weight reduction. The use of POM in automotives is forecast to witness a CAGR of 1.4% between 2019 and 2025 eventually reaching a consumption of 41.3 kilo tons by 2025.

Germany is the fourth largest producers of automotive after Japan,U.S., and China and around 75% of the passenger cars made in Germany are exported. There is a presence of a large network of suppliers operating in mechanical engineering, metal working, and other associated industries related to the automotive industry in the country.

Germany is also the major producer of electrical & electronics in Europe. Electrical & electronics is Germany’s second largest industrial sector accounting for around 11% of total German industrial production, and about 3% of its gross domestic product (GDP). The country exports to almost all other countries in the Europe. POM demand from electrical & electronics end-use is forecast to reach 18 kilo tons by 2025 at a CAGR of 0.5%. With the above mentioned factors, it is evident that Germany will be a power house for almost all the end-use industries of POM in the region.
