Polyvinyl butyral resin is an important plastic in production of laminated safety glass sheets automotive. It is also used inarchitectural application as a safety film or sheet over glass objects. In case of automotives, PVB is widely used as an inner film of the windshield but the use is increasing in luxury cars where PVB films are used for reducing light intensity coming into the car as well as increasing the noise resistance from side window and roof. PVB in architectural application assists the noise reduction and light intensity reduction offered by plain glass. Automotive and Architectural applications account more than 90% of the PVB market. Other niche applications include solar encapsulate, paints & coatings and adhesives.Europe and Asian markets are set to grow due to two distinctive reasons.European and Middle East architects prefer PVB films on a wider range as compared to North American and Asian Countries. Asian PVB market will be driven by ever-growing automotive market in China and India.

Important PVB producers include Sekisui, Eastman and Kuraray which have global footprint in terms of sales and manufacturing units.Majority of smaller PVB manufacturers can be seen in China, accounting for 40%of the global capacity and they also produce PVB films and sheets. Major PVB producers have announced capacity expansions considering the demand growth and rising Asian economy backend by increasing spending power of the middle class families. Infrastructural revolution which is taking place in Middle-East will drive the growth for PVB in the long term forecast.
