North America HDPE Market Overview
The total polyethylene demand inNorth America has been estimated to around 17124 kilo tons and has grown from14754 kilo tons in 2010. Amongst the major type of polyethylene, HDPE accountsfor a share of around 48.9% followed by LLDPE and LDPE and 35.2% and 15.7%,respectively. The average operating in the last 8 years in the country has averagedaround 82%. In the forecast period operating rates are likely to slightly lowerto 81% as a large number of capacities are added in the USA. In 2008 and 2009the region was affected by the economic downturn, causing the demand tocontract and only to recover in 2010. The regional polyethylene demand isanticipated to increase by a CAGR of 2.4% in the forecasted years till 2025.
In terms of HDPE demand byapplications, blow molding application account for around 32.2% end-useapplication and this will continue to be largest end-use application during theforecast period till 2025. It is forecast to grow at an annual average of 2.6%per year. The second largest application is injection molding at 25.9% sharefollowed by films at 19.6%, and pipe and conduit at 13.3%.
The North American region is expected to large exporter of HDPE at an increasing rate due to capacity additions in USA and increasing demand from Asian countries like China. This will further be supported by speculated debottlenecks most likely expected to be carried out by major players.
