  • In October 2023, Asahi Kasei announced a JPY 40 billion (approx. USD 270 million) investment into expand its Hipore™ coating for capacity for lithium-ion battery separators. The lines will be installed across USA (Charlotte, North Carolina), Japan (Hyuga, Miyazaki), and South Korea (Pyeongtaek, Gyeonggi), with expected start-up in 2025. The expanded capacity will support the production of up to 1.2 billion square meters of separators annually, enough to supply 1.7 million electric vehicles.
  • After over 21 months of construction, SK IE Technology (subsidiary of SK Innovation) commenced production at its first lithium-ion battery separator plant in Poland, in October 2021. Located in the Silesia Province, production at the facility is enough to supply over 300,000 electric vehicles.
  • W-Scope Corporation plans to set up a new battery separator production facility in North America, via its subsidiary W-Scope Chungju Plant. The company is reported to be currently scouting sites in the USA, Canada, and Mexico.
  • In May 2023, LG Toray Hungary Battery Separator Film Kft. (LTHS) commenced production at its battery separator film (BSF) facility in Changzhou, China.
  • Ube Industries announced in May 2024 that it would jointly build with Maxell Corporation a new lithium-ion battery separator plant at Sakai City, Japan. Production is expected to commence in September 2026.
