Bioplastics in Consumer Goods Market Analysis By Demand, By Region, By Applications and Forecast Report Till 2032

Bioplastics in Consumer Goods Market Overview

Bioplastics are a type of plastic that are derived from renewable sources such as plants, microorganisms, or agricultural by-products. They offer an alternative to traditional plastics made from fossil fuels. Bioplastics are gaining increasing attention and adoption in the consumer goods industry as a more sustainable alternative to traditional plastics derived from fossil fuels.

In terms of Bioplastics demand by type, Bio Polyethylene (Bio-PE), Bio Polyamides (Bio-PA), Polylactic Acid (PLA), Polyhydroxyalkanoates (PHA), Polybutylene Succinate (PBS), and Starch-Based plastics are the types of bioplastics used in the manufacture of consumer goods. The largest type of bioplastic used in consumer goods is Polylactic Acid (PLA). PLA is a thermoplastic polymer derived from renewable resources, such as corn starch or sugarcane and is commonly used in various consumer goods, including packaging materials, disposable cutlery, food containers, and disposable tableware.

In terms of applications, bioplastics are widely used in Casing, Circuit Boards, White Goods, and loudspeakers. Bioplastics, such as polylactic acid (PLA) and Bio-Polyethylene (Bio-PE). Bioplastics are often used in the production of casings for various consumer goods which includes casings for electronic devices, household appliances, personal care products, and other consumer electronics.

Bioplastic Manufacturers for Consumer Goods:

SCG Chemicals Plc (SCGC) is planning on developing a bio-based ethylene factory in Thailand to produce plastic materials made from plants. Bio-ethylene is the key raw material used in the manufacture of bio-based Ethylene.

NatureWorks is set to launch a new low-carbon PLA plant in Thailand which is supposed to start by 2024.

Increasing demand for Consumer Goods

Bioplastics are increasingly being used in a wide range of consumer goods due to their environmentally friendly characteristics and potential for reducing the reliance on traditional plastics derived from fossil fuels. Bioplastics are used in the manufacture of electronic devices and household appliances. They are used in casings, housings, and components, providing a more sustainable option while maintaining the necessary functional properties.

They can also be used to manufacture casings for smartphones, tablets, laptops, and other electronic devices. They can provide a lightweight and durable alternative to traditional plastics, offering protection for the internal components while reducing the environmental impact.

Bio PE can be used in the packaging of white goods to provide a sustainable alternative to traditional plastic packaging. It can be used for protective films, wraps, and molded components, helping reduce the environmental impact of the packaging materials.

Bioplastics can be employed in various components of refrigerators, such as interior shelving, door liners, and vegetable crispers. Bioplastics provide durability, temperature resistance, and customization options while reducing the overall environmental footprint. They are also used in the construction of washing machine components, including detergent drawers, control panels, and outer casings. Bioplastics offer excellent chemical resistance, impact strength, and design flexibility.

PLA can be used to produce transparent or translucent parts in white goods. For example, it can be used for windows or display covers in appliances such as refrigerators or ovens. PLA's optical clarity makes it suitable for these applications.

High Costs

Bioplastics are typically made from renewable resources such as corn, sugarcane, or other plant-based feedstocks. The production and processing of these raw materials can be more expensive than extracting and refining fossil fuels. Additionally, fluctuations in agricultural commodity prices can impact the cost of bio-based feedstocks. The manufacturing processes for bioplastics often require specialized equipment and technologies, which can be more costly to implement and maintain compared to conventional plastic production methods. The scale of production also affects the costs of bioplastic.
