Polyimide is a high-performance engineering polymer that ranks among the top of the engineering plastic pyramid. It can withstand high temperatures and has good chemical resistance. The majority of polyimide is consumed in the form of films and tapes; however, the rest is used for stock parts, coatings and adhesives, composites, and fibers. Most of the polyimide resins produced are consumed captively in integrated plants for further production of films, tapes, and various other shapes. Only a small quantity is available for direct sale. Generally, polyimide resins are available in the form of solid resin powder or in liquid form. Polyimides are made by a condensation polymerization reaction between aromatic primary diamines and aromatic tetracarboxylic dianhydrides. Polyimide resins can be thermoset and thermoplastic polymers. Methods like molding and extrusion are used to process polyimide resin, while higher grades of polyimide are processed with precursors to avoid decomposition during softening. It also requires high temperatures for its processing. Hence, polyimide resin is very expensive compared to many other polymers.
Global Polyimide Resins Market By Region - 2021 (Tons)
Asia Pacific accounted for the largest share of global polyimide resins market and it is also estimated to grow at fastest rates among the other regions during the forecast period. The region’s huge electrical and electronic industry base is expected to bolster the demand for Polyimide Resins. Though the Chinese polyimide resin industry is oversupplied, the plants are operated at very low utilization rates as a result of its production lacking the quality supply to make high-end polyimide products, leading to a lower acceptance rate.
Global Polyimide Resins Market By Application - 2016-2032 (Tons)
Global Polyimide Resins Market By End Use Industry - 2021 (Tons)
Polyimide Resins demand is expected to be strong especially in countries with large populations such as China, India, Indonesia, Thailand, Philippines, and Vietnam. Further the increase in living standards and increasing purchasing power among consumers due to economic growth will keep the regional Polyimide Resins market high. Asia has historically witnessed healthy growth rates in demand mainly driven by the burgeoning economy of China, South Korea, and India.
In terms of value, the Asia-Pacific is estimated to continue its number one position during the long-term forecast period. The Asia Pacific polyimide resins market is projected to reach USD 9243.7 million by 2032 growing at a CAGR of 11.3% between 2022-2032. The electrical & electronics industry plays an important role in GDP of the countries in Asia-Pacific. The region has high predicted growth rates on the back of China, Korea, and other emerging economies.
Dupont, Ube, Kaneka, and various Chinese Polyimide manufacturers have announced capacity expansion ensuring supply to meet the growing global demand in the electronics, semiconductor, automotive, and other industries. The new capacity expansions are expected to come online in the short-term forecast.
Samsung Electronics, Intel, Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company Limited (TSMC), SK Hynix, Micron, Qualcomm, Broadcom, Kioxia, Texas Instruments (TI), Analog Devices, Microchip, NXP, MediaTek,, Infineon, Bosch, STMicroelectronics, Sony, ARM, AMD, Nvidia, ON Semiconductor, UMC, Apple, IBM, Mitsubishi, Electric Tower Semiconductor, Xilinx, SMIC, and Nordic Semiconductor are some of the major semiconductor manufacturer around the world. The new capacity addition in downstream industry will further drive the global polyimide resins market in the forecast period.
